Joe Rogan made desperate rule-change plea to UFC that was immediately rejected – UFC News

Joe Rogan's plea for UFC rule change rejected

In a recent episode of his popular podcast, the Joe Rogan Experience, Joe Rogan opened up about his ongoing commitment to fighter safety within the UFC. Despite being a staunch advocate for the sport, he recounted a moment when he approached UFC owners with a proposal aimed at enhancing the safety of fighters—only to find that his suggestions were ignored.

Having been part of the UFC family since 1997, starting out as a ringside and backstage reporter before becoming a well-known commentator, Rogan has consistently championed the well-being of fighters. During his conversation with UFC lightweight Jiri Prochazka, he reflected on his discussions with the super-agent and Endeavour CEO, who took over the UFC in 2016. Rogan urged them to consider abolishing the practice of weight cutting.

Rogan’s argument for eliminating weight cutting was straightforward: it would significantly improve fighter safety. He proposed that the UFC implement random weight checks to discourage dangerous weight-loss practices prior to fights. Furthermore, he suggested the introduction of additional weight classes to minimize the weight disparities between fighters, ensuring fairer competition.

One of his more innovative ideas was to establish weight classes at every 10-pound increment. This would allow fighters to compete at weights that align more closely with their natural body composition, thereby reducing the need for extreme weight cuts that can jeopardize their health.

Despite his passionate advocacy for these changes, Rogan’s appeal did not lead to any swift action from the UFC. Nonetheless, his unwavering dedication to promoting fighter safety and equitable competition within the sport remains evident, showcasing his commitment to making the UFC a safer environment for all fighters.
