After a remarkable 25-year journey, the nonprofit organization behind the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) has revealed that it will be shutting down due to severe financial challenges. Kilby Blades, a romance novelist serving as the interim executive director, made this announcement in an emotional video and through social media channels, pinpointing the organization’s financial struggles as the primary reason for its closure.
In her remarks, Blades elaborated on the financial hardships that have plagued NaNoWriMo, which previously celebrated successes with bestselling novels such as “Water For Elephants” and transitioned to a nonprofit model six years ago.
